COVID-19 testing - free without a doctor's order

Date: May 15, 2021

COVID-19 PCR testing is being provided for free by the State of Delaware.  Any Delaware resident can be tested, without a prescription or doctor's order.  Do not eat, drink, or brush your teeth for 20 minutes prior to the test.

WHERE TO GO:

1.  You can find testing locations here:  Some of these, but not all, don't need a doctor's order.  Many also offer COVID-19 vaccinations.
https://coronavirus.delaware.gov/testing/

2.  There is a schedule of pop-up clinics; you can make an appointment by email to get tested, here (select your county):

3.  Several Rite Aid pharmacies offer free COVID-19 PCR testing in DE, MD and PA, 7 days/week.  No order is needed.  You can be tested regardless if you are symptomatic or not.  Kids over age 4 can be tested. These tests are run by Google's biotech company, Verily.  There are testing sites in north Wilmington, Bear, and Smyrna.  You can sign up and make an appointment HERE, and click the "Get Started" button:

4.  Many "Medical Aid Units" (Urgent-Care Centes) offer COVID-19 testing.  The testing itself is free, but they may charge for their provider's services.  You should call them before going; some may require that you make an appointment.  The testing itself is reliable, and it's fine to take your child there for testing.  For other medical care, I don't normally recommend Medical Aid Units for children.

5.  In Maryland, the closest testing site is here.  Like other Medical Aid Units, there may be a fee:
ExpressCare of Elkton
310 E Pulaski Hwy.
Elkton, MD, 21921
7 Days a week, 10 am to 9 pm.
